9th Grade Summer School

Summer School for 9th Graders

SCHS & SJHHS Students may take summer school classes if their schedule for their freshman year in high school is impacted. 

This means, your student is either: 

  1. World History Accelerated (in English or Spanish) and Language/Elective
  2. Taking two specialized electives (ex: Language and Music)

Health

There are three options for summer school health classes – CUSD Summer Credit Program, ACCESS, or PCHS.

Option 1: CUSD SUMMER ONLINE COURSES - The course work is completed at home.  All tests must be taken in person.  A 1.5 hour testing time per week (at Aliso Niguel High School) is assigned.  Students will be required to attend a mandatory orientation June 19 or June 20.  Failure to attend the orientation will result in being dropped from the course - no exceptions.  CUSD classes run from: June 18 through July 25.

 

Option 2: ACCESS - Students who enroll with ACCESS meet with the teacher once a week at one of four site locations (San Clemente, Dana Point, or Mission Viejo).  This class is an 8-week packet-driven course that can be accelerated if the student meets with the teacher more than once a week.  Students take tests with the teacher once per week during their appointment.  ACCESS classes run from: (dates not yet determined)  ACCESS classes are accredited, but are not CSU or UC approved elective credits.

 

Option 3: PCHS (Pacific Coast High School) - The course offered through PCHS is fully online. The course runs from: (dates not yet determined). PCHS classes are CSU/UC approved elective credits

 

To enroll in health, choose one of the following:

  1. CUSD SUMMER ONLINE COURSES -  Student needs to see Mrs. Alward after April 13 to enroll.  Registration window is April 13 - May 25 (or when capacity is reached).  The academic advisor will verify that the student’s schedule is impacted and register the student for the class.
  2. ACCESS - Print and complete the ACCESS Summer School packet from (website to come)Submit Pages 2 & 3 of the Packet to Mrs. Alward on or after April 13.  You will submit the rest of the packet on your first day with ACCESS.  The academic advisor will verify that the student’s schedule is impacted and then send the completed forms to the district. 
  3. PCHS - Print the Enrollment Packet from (website to come)Parent and student will need to complete the entire Enrollment Packet (6 pages).  Student must then submit the completed paperwork to Mrs. Alward after April 13.   The academic advisor will verify that the student’s schedule is impacted and then send the completed forms to the district. 

College and Career Planning (CCP)

*** CCP will be available this summer for incoming Freshman attending SCHS and SJHHS.***

To register for CCP, a student needs to go to the office of their Academic Advisor, Mrs. Alward, during lunch or before/after school.  Ms. Alward will help your student register for CCP.  Registration begins (date not yet determined).  .
