For your convenience we have a 24-hour absentee line. If your child is going to be absent from school please call 369-6468 and state your name and your child's name, state grade level, and the reason for the absence. If you are unable to call, please have your child bring a note the fist day he/she returns to school.

8th Grade Awards Criterion

8th Grade Awards, Tuesday, May 21st at 6:00 p.m.


Students are only invited to the 8th grade award ceremony IF they were selected for a subject, elective, special recognition award (chosen by the 8th grade staff), or qualified for one of the academic awards:

*Your student’s GPA and test scores can be found on the parent portal*


The academic award criteria is; Superintendent’s Honor Roll:  3.83 – 4.0 GPA for 8th grade only or for all 3 years


4.0 Honor Roll: 4.0 GPA for 8th grade only or for all 3 years


President’s Award for Academic Excellence: 3.5 GPA for all 3 years AND a Raw Score of 2724 or higher on the English Language Arts portion of the 2018 SBAC test.

The minimum days for the remainder of the year will be as follows. On minimum days there is no SWELL and dismissal is at 12:50 pm.

About Us




Bernice Ayer Middle School (est. 1998) is a 6th – 8th Middle school, feeding into San Clemente High School (est. 1965). BAMS is one of the few Dual Immersion Middles Schools within the Capistrano Unified School District. Other programs offered include ASB, PAL, WEB, Choir, Drama, Yearbook, Video Production, Band and Orchestra.  There are about 900 students currently enrolled.
